Thank you for your support!

Step 1 - Obsidian Installation

You need to download and install Obsidian on your computer. Follow the installation instructions from this page.

Step 2 - Download Obsidian MEDILIG

Download and unzip the latest English version of Obsidian MEDILIG from SourceFourge

Step 3 - Create a folder locally for Obsidian MEDILIG

  • Create a folder on the C:\ drive of your computer, for example C:\ObsidianVaults\ObsidianMedilig.
  • Copy all the Obsidian MEDILIG files into that folder.

Step 4 - Open Obsidian MEDILIG vault

The Obsidian MEDILIG vault is simply a folder (C:\ObsidianVaults\ObsidianMedilig) that contains all the system files of the Obsidian MEDILIG application, the patient folders created by the user, any media you add, Obsidian settings and plugins along with their settings. The vault contains everything needed for Obsidian MEDILIG to function on another computer. All you need to do is install Obsidian, copy the vault to the new computer or device, and continue working there.

For general information on managing Obsidian vaults or creating them, you can refer to the specific user guides on the respective websites.

Here, we are interested in seeing how to switch or open the Obsidian MEDILIG vault we created. To manage vaults, you need to open the Vault Switcher. From another Obsidian vault you created or from the Obsidian Sandbox, open the left panel (left sidebar), and at the bottom, click the up-down arrow that represents the vault (Fig. 1), then select Manage vaults...

Press Open To open the folder we created in the 3rd step, C:\ObsidianVaults\ObsidianMedilig, it will then display the homepage Obsidian MEDILIG v0.9.1.EN and the message Trust author and enable plugins, Fig. 3. Click this button to proceed.

If the font is too large, press Ctrl + - to shrink it. At this point, the installation of Obsidian MEDILIG is complete. We will now proceed with some useful settings that it’s good to be aware of, and these are likely the only ones you will need.

Step 5 - Configuration settings

Open Settings (ctrl + ,) or click on the cog icon in the lower right corner of the left panel

Configure backup

On the left side, scroll down and from the Community plugins, select Local Backup. Verify you have these settings.

  • Windows output path C:\ObsidianVaults
The folder where the backup zipped files will be created
  • File archiver path C:\Program Files\7-Zip\7z.exe
The location where the compression program 7-Zip is installed

Configure media_feeder

To automatically place media files into the patient folder, you need to create a folder C:\media_feeder from which Obsidian MEDILIG transfers the files (see adding a photo and DOC - Clinical Case). This is the default location. If you want to change the location, you would need to modify parts of the system code, which is not recommended for casual users:
